Rebound I is a dance performance appreciation beyond sight. This is an experiment on a sighted audience; shifting the conventions of performance appreciation from sight to hearing. Two dancers, separated in space, adorn a black and white bodysuit of sensors triggered by the movement of specific body parts. ( head, torso, arm and leg )
A specific sound is assigned to each body part and nuances of it can only be heard by the presence of changing light intensity. The bodysuit of dancer A is the negative of dancer B. (i.e. while dancer A’s head and torso are white, dancer B’s arm and leg are white)
Together, the two dancers make up one complete body. Each dancer is equipped with a handheld torch. The performance sequence starts of with each dancer, in turn, illuminating and introducing the sound assigned to each body part, thus establishing a sound motif. The performance progresses with the eventual extinguishing of all light so that the audience relies purely on the memory of audio “sight” to envisage the dancers’ movements.
Rebound II is an installation adapted from Rebound I. This installation invites the interaction of two participants, separated in space, to conduct a dialogue with each other while moving and sending rebounding sound signals triggered by the sensors on the adapted bodysuit, across space to each other.
「リバウンド」という作品は、耳で見える 真っ暗な空間の中で行った 激しくて「不“視”議」な身体パフォーマンスである。二人のダンサーが空間の両側から信号を出したり、もらったりして、密接なサウンド・ダイローグをする。観客に対しての仕事は ダンサーたちがどういう風に動いているのか想像しながら パフォーマンスを“観る”ことである。光とモーション・センサーが付けているボデイー・スーツを着っている二人のダンサーが「頭」、「体」、「腕」、「足」二つずつの部分の役割を果たして、それぞれの部分を動かすと、独特な音が出る。周囲光線の位置と明るさによって、それぞれの音の音色と音量も変化させる。最初懐中電灯で一つずつの部分と各自の音を照らしながら観客に紹介する。十分以内で次第に光が消えていく。最後の一分は ストロボのような眩しい光線で様々な部分が目に飛び込んでくる。分裂された体がまた真っ黒の闇に呑み込まれたら、全て耳を頼りにダンサーの動作を想像する。それは、目が見える観客のための振り付けである。目が段々鈍ったら、耳に変えて観るという演出である。
「リバウンド I 」は 武蔵野美術大学で Phantom Bug Satellite Vol2というイベントで行われた 演出である。そして「リバウンド II 」はFilterworksという展示会で再演した インタラクテイブ・インスタレーションである。
